JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

JOB SUMMARY
 
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Nursing, RHTC  is responsible and accountable for managing and providing leadership to a service. The incumbent manages the staff and resources and provides leadership and consultative advice in clinical care, operational and administrative activities of the service; ensures that programs and services are delivered in an effective and efficient manner and meets established strategic plans and organizational objectives.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 
 
1.      In collaboration with the RashidHospitalTraumaCenter leadership team, develops, implements, evaluates and revises service/program specific plans and goals and objectives. Ensures consistency with project and community operational plans.
 
2.      Manages the operations of the assigned clinical service(s)/program(s); schedules and assigns staff; co-ordinates and manages clinical practice and patient care activities; authorizes the reassignment of staff within and across clinical service/program areas of responsibility; responsible for creating master rotations.
 
3.      Takes a proactive role under the guidance of Nursing Management/Nursing Education in training, education and CQI activites of RashidHospitalTraumaCenter nursing staff. Promotes a learning environment. Identifies opportunities for improvement.
 
4.      Manages assigned staff in accordance with professional standards, performance expectations and current legislated/contractual obligations; promotes and/or provides for co-operative working relationships, and a quality practice environment.
 
5.      Acts as a resource to the leadership team in area of specialization. Provides expert consultative advice to interdisciplinary team members as required.
 
6.      Supports the development of annual operating and capital equipment budget forecasts for the assigned service area; monitors activities and ensures expenditures are within approved budgets; identifies efficiencies and promotes optimal use of resources, making recommendations for current and future program and service adjustments.
 
 
7.      Monitors indicators and takes corrective action to ensure that clinical programs and services continue to operate efficiently and effectively; manages contracts for assigned programs and services.
 
8.      Acts as an advocate for patients and families; responds to identified issues; takes a lead role in coordinating a complaint review/audit process to address concerns regarding patient care and processes.
 
9.      Participates in the development and maintenance of administrative and clinical information systems; ensures contractual and government reporting requirements are met.
 
10.   Ensures that professional practice and care standards are maintained.
 
11.   Participates on assigned internal, and external committees; chairs and/or leads discussion as requested; prepares status reports and/or develops recommendations on follow up action to be taken; implements approved recommendations for the assigned service.
 
12.   Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship and ongoing communications with medical staff, other department heads and community agencies.
 
13.   Ensures the Director is informed of and aware of significant events and activities in the area(s) of responsibility.
 
14.   Performs other professional duties as may be assigned within his/her scope and ability.
 
 
DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY
 
Autonomous within the role responsibilities, using allocated resources driven by the controlled budget and under the guidance of the Nursing Director.

EXPERIENCE
 
Minimum of five (5) years experience with three (3) years management experience. At least 1 year in assigned areas of responsibility. Clinical experience in assigned area
