JOB DESCRIPTION:


JOB SUMMARY:

To ensure the maintenance of high standards of patient care in response to service needs. Maintain credibility as a competent practitioner while continuing to develop professionally. To support department Day Surgery Lead Nurse and OPD & Day Case Matron by contributing to the provision of service co-ordination.

Principal Responsibilities relating to Clinical / Clerical duties, Communication, Clinical Governance, Risk Assurance, Training and Education, Performance Monitoring, and Financial and Physical Resources:

  1. To provide professional leadership to junior staff and foster collaborative partnerships with other disciplines at Braintree Community Hospital.
  2. To communicate effectively with patients and their relatives, ensuring accurate and seamless information is conveyed and documented.
  3. To assist in the maintenance and monitoring of agreed standards, ensuring that any shortfall is brought to the attention of the department manager.
  4. To ensure that all quality initiatives are adhered to and that the highest standards of care are maintained at all times.
  5. To assist in the development of clinical protocols.
  6. To promote and maintain effective working relationships and communications with Consultants, medical staff, nurse colleagues and other multi-agency professionals.
  7. To undertake nursing assessments competently.
  8. To take charge of the department as required and in the absence of a more senior member of staff.
  9. To act at all times as patient advocate.
  10. Be clinically competent in all areas of practice relevant to the post or willing to take on relevant training.
  11. Be competent in a diverse range of clinical interventions undertaken in day case surgery and develop the skills to develop expertise in these specialist areas. This is reflected in the person specification but this is not an exhaustive list.
  12. To work in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act (2008) and comply with National and local infection control policies and procedures and any other related infection prevention policies and procedures.
  13. To take direct responsibility for ensuring cleaning standards are maintained throughout the shift when in charge.
  14. To maintain and develop knowledge, skills and competencies to ensure a patient’s individual needs are met and are in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct, PREP and organisational policies.
  15.  To maintain a high standard of patient confidentiality.
  16. There may be a requirement to undertake other professional duties as may reasonably be required to support BCH and ICUK nursing team.

  • Take all reasonable care to minimise the likelihood of healthcare-associated infections occurring to patients, visitors and staff (including yourself) as a consequence of actions and/or omissions at work
  • Co-operate with Braintree Community Hospital and Interhealth Canada (UK) Ltd personnel in ensuring that all statutory and other requirements are complied with – in particular, compliance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008: Code of Practice for the prevention and control of healthcare associated infections
