Congratulations to InterHealth Canada Leadership team at the Rashid Hospital Trauma Center on the winning nomination for 2010 Arab Health Specialized Services Award which recognized the tireless and innovative work of the staff of the Department at Rashid Hospital Trauma Center's Emergency Department for improving timely access to efficient, quality emergency care.
In January 2006 InterHealth Canada who was awarded the contract to provide leadership to the Trauma Center, and Rashid Hospital Executive began working closely on a plan to open the new center comprised of an Emergency Department (ED) with 5 Trauma Resuscitation rooms, 6 triage bays, 40 acute treatment bays and 30 short observational (23hr) beds. The Center has its own dedicated Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), Surgical Wards, and dedicated Operating Theaters.
As in previous years, all people who experience trauma and who require ambulance services are brought to the ED of Rashid Hospital. On September 19, 2006 the doors of the existing Rashid Hospital ED were closed, and the Trauma Center doors were opened. Within the first year, there was a 20% increase in people presenting through the Trauma Center ED. There has been a graduated increase in the services offered by the Trauma Center since September 2006; the most recent addition is the Operating Theater Suite which assumed the surgical operating services since the beginning of October, 2007.
Doctors, nurses, educators, administrators, managers and support staff have been fully engaged in working with Rashid Hospital staff to introduce and implement different standards of care. There has been a tremendous amount of training and education provided to medical and nursing staff members through methods including, but not limited to teaching rounds, short courses, in-servicing, and self-study packages.
Clinical Guidelines for physicians in ED and SICU have been submitted and approved. Teaching rounds in ED and SICU, with exam oriented teaching for Emergency Medicine Physicians board preparation is in progress and DOHMS physicians / registrars are working towards Royal College (UK) approval and the European Intensive Care Diploma.
The InterHealth Canada leadership team continues to work closely with the Rashid Hospital leadership team and the existing services to improve patient flow concerns, waiting times, and to improve patient safety. In addition to the opening of this new facility, there has been a unified effort by Rashid Hospital and InterHealth Canada in preparing for the Joint Commission International Accreditation survey which was granted the status of Accredited in January 2008.
InterHealth Canada Leaders are committed to continue to improve services and to provide quality, evidence-based health care to the people of Dubai.
